It's May 9th, 2011! What does this mean?

It means that this balloon is one year old!

Oh, and this child, too.

Why do I make light of this? Because I'm still in denial... There's NO way my baby is one year old. Impossible.

Yet all these people gathered around to watch him smash his face into a cake...

And open a giant heap of presents...

And watch me cry, of course...

Yeah, I cried... I've been a wuss for exactly one year now.

I love you, son. More than you can possibly imagine.Happy first birthday!!

This Moment

There is my love.

Laying with his back to the wall, arm flung over his eyes to block out the soft, green glow.

I am sitting on the edge of the bed with you cradled in my arms.

My foot is tucked beneath me and your chubby little fingers are entwined in my hair while you study my face calmly.

I am uncomfortable, but I dare not shift for fear of ruining this perfect moment.

You are nestled just right against me, bundled in a blanket with just your head and arm poking out.

I start to blink slowly, encouraging you to close your eyes.

Your eyelids start to get heavier, but you can't stop smiling long enough to fall asleep.

I finally have to pry my gaze from your flawless face, because I can't stop smiling back.

I stare at the night light for as long as I can before I can't resist looking away any longer.

Your eyes are already closed and your breaths have deepened.

After gently tugging my hair from the grip of your drool covered hands, I set you gently in the middle of the bed and lay next to you.

My foot starts to tingle as blood rushes back in and my love starts to snore, threatening to pull me from this perfect moment.|

But then, your warm arm presses against mine, I hear your soft breaths again and I am once more entranced.

I am grateful that I do not have to leave you in another room or somewhere far from me. Not just yet. You are right where I need you.

I am almost asleep when I think to reach out to grab a pen and paper.

I feel the need to write this down, so that I might remember this moment forever.

Calen-DON'T! Or Something Like That...

I love calendars and have trouble not buying every single one I come across.

Unfortunately, they offer hard evidence to my laziness...

Want to see how on top of life I've been lately?

Also, in case you were wondering, I STILL probably won't change these over after posting this.

Def•i•ni•tion: Floor Baby

Floor•Baby  [flohr bey-bee]

1. An infant who is not yet able to walk alone and who must be set upon the floor when the caretaker [parent] is unable to hold them.

In a sentence: I have to wash my hands, so he's going to have to be a floor baby for right now.

Like Baby, Like MommIE

I've recently noticed that when you have a baby they not only start to imitate you, but you start to imitate them. For example:

- It's near impossible for me to not smile when my baby is smiling at me.
- I swear, I coo more than my baby.
- Whenever I try to burp my baby, I burp.
- Toys are FASCINATING! But to be honest, they were never not fascinating...
- I poo when I have to poo! Well, I make it to the toilet first. But no wasting time!
- I spend a lot of time rolling around on the floor these days.
- This morning, my husband drooled on me. Yup.

Floor Fun!

I'm not complaining though. I like having an excuse to act like an infant.

Spider-ific!

Today, a spider started crawling on me while I was driving and I DIDN'T crash the car. It's true. Becoming a mother changes your instincts. =)

After calmly pulling the car over to the side of the road, I gently pushed the spider outside (with my flip-flop), all without screaming. As freaky as those things are, I can't bring myself to kill them...

When I started driving again, I noticed spider #2 chillin' on his web between the side-view mirror and door handle. I couldn't find a place to pull over and felt bad that this one might blow off in the wind and die.

There's my spider! Terrifying, isn't it =)

Luckily, he held on until I reached my destination and I made my husband safely remove him from my door handle! I almost gave the spider my car for keepsies...

Nap Time

My son, Montag, sleeps really well at night. But for his nap-times during the day, he requires being held. If I even THINK about setting him down, he will wake up.

Today, after a late night and early morning, he slept long and hard AND let me set him down by himself for each nap! I was quite proud of him!

Lil' Sicko

That is, until I noticed he had a tiny cough and decided to take his temperature this evening. Alas, he has gotten his first (slight) fever...

Let's hope this passes by quickly!

P.S. I don't really have a P.S., but I never feel right ending a message with just my name...
